  1. Lemony is a creep but I don’t think it’s that bad. He’s depressed and kind of crazy over her love, which I think makes him sympathetic to an extent because his life has just been a series bad things happening and Beatrice was the only person. Obviously, he is just as much to blame as the other adults for not doing something when he had the chance, but he did write a series of books while being pursued by the authorities which exonerated the Baudelaires of Jaques’ murder as well as various accounts of arson and which exposed the terrible actions of the fire-starters. Not a great guy or a good guy, but he doesn’t shy away from mentioning that the children loved their father or that Bertrand *was* a good guy.
